A hopeless romantic is in love with the idea of love. Someone who gives every person he encounter with the interest of love, a fighting chance to be with him. Like Ted Mosby. Ted wants to find the love of his life that often times, more wrong comes out in the hopes of being right.
Ted falls in love with girls who stare at him for too long, or has beautiful blue eye, and likes the same thing he does, Ted is one big mush of a hopeless romantic that sometimes, he gets into situation he can't get out off.
How can you know you're a hopeless romantic?
I've read an article about hopeless romantic entitled The "Hopelss" Romantic by DA Keene. He said that a hopeless romantic assumes that they will find the love of all loves, meaning every single time a person fails, like Ted, he never gives up. He never backs down on the thought that there is better reality. Being a hopeless romantic, according to DA being a hopeless romantic is not about getting to the destination but the voyage of looking for that one perfect love.
Ted has been in many relationships, being a hopeless romantic, he never misses a beat going one girl to another. Ted also believes that the woman he thinks is his “soulmate” would be the person that's most compatible with him, same interests, same movies, same old songs. Really, a hopeless romantic.

Being one means loving someone even if it kills you, but that can make you happy. Being a hopeless romantic may hurt you, just like Ted has been
dumped numerous times. It made him hopeful that someone may be out there, waiting for him, to be swooped up into the sunset. Every single one of us has that side.
